The Kite and the Sea Monster

I recognized myself when I saw a man playing like a child with a kite, on the northern Dutch beach. Everybody feels powerful and lighthearted in keeping control of a flying object in the wind, which has a colourful long tail.

Of course, I noticed also the other members of this image when I took the photo. I chose the moment in which most of them were in a proper position for an appealing composition. I was curious about the family digging the sand and the foam all around the other busy kids. But, as often happen in photography, when I saw the picture at home I got another surprise: I noticed a detail which I forgot. On the left, a sea monster was very close to a helpless and unaware little girl.

That is the magic of a flat image and a piece of wood with a shape of a snake.
